What do you think about when you hear the words "spring cleaning"?
Maybe you think of dusting shelves, organizing a closet, scrubbing the kitchen or bathroom, and clearing out your attic or garage.
What would it look like if we took that same approach and applied it to our entire lives?
Spring is the perfect time for a fresh beginning, not only for your physical space, but in your mental and emotional life, as well.
Here are some thoughts on how to declutter both your outer and inner worlds, creating space for clarity and peace of mind.

~ Clean-up Your Physical Space
When our surrounding environment is a mess, that chaos can also affect our minds.
Visual order can just as significantly create a sense of mental order.
Try these tips:
Start small by cleaning out one drawer, one shelf, or one corner.
Ask yourself a few simple questions as you declutter, such as, “Do I use or need this? Do I really want or love having this?”
Donate, recycle, or throw away what no longer serves your needs or isn’t functional.
A clean space can set the tone for a clear mind!

~ Review Your Digital Life
Are your phone and laptop more cluttered than your closets and drawers?
Clean-up your screens:
Unsubscribe from emails or social accounts that you don’t read or that just create stress.
Organize your files and photos for easier access and use.
Delete apps you aren’t using.
A person’s digital life should serve their goals and needs instead of depleting their energy.

~ Detox Your Mind
Mental clutter can show up as nagging thoughts, constant worry, or feeling “off.”
Refresh your thinking:
Write down thoughts that you want to get out of your head.
Take deep breaths and practice being calm and still, even for 5 minutes a day.
Talk to a supportive family member, friend, coach, or therapist.
Consider any limiting beliefs that you can set aside while also focusing on helpful and hopeful thoughts that you want to embrace.

~ Refresh Your Habits
It’s easy to get into a rut when sticking to the same daily routines.
Give yourself grace and let go of habits that aren’t working!
Ask yourself:
Which habits support the life I want and what I want to accomplish?
Which ones are holding me back?
What small changes can I make that could help move me in a different direction?
It’s ok to say no to the things that aren’t working for you and yes to the things that align with your priorities.

~ Renew Your Relationships
You can approach spring as a time for renewal in your personal connections too.
Take time to reflect:
Who in your life lifts you up?
Which relationships drain you?
Who have you been meaning to reconnect with?
Take inventory of the people in your life.
Make space for nourishing relationships while also giving yourself permission to gently distance yourself from those that impede your ability to thrive.

*****
Just start where you are by clearing one space, one thought, or one habit, assess the results, and continue to move forward.
Let this season be your reminder that you’re allowed to grow, change, and begin again.
Here's to a fresh start in a fresh season and a lighter, brighter you!
